Why I became a practitioner

Having worked as an NHS midwife and currently as an independent midwife, I was really keen to become a Natal Hypnotherapy practitioner because I truly love being able to give women and their partners simple yet effective ways to enable them to have a really positive birth experience, and I believe Natal Hypnotherapy is the way! Each birth is unique and can be an empowering experience with the right preparation. Natal Hypnotherapy helps to promote a calm, gentle approach to birth and provides a forum where any issues around birth can be discussed. Sharing this knowledge is a great pleasure and I am delighted to be able to guide couples through these enlightening workshops towards a joyful birth in an environment that is comfortable, very informative and fun.

My core beliefs surrounding pregnancy and birth

I believe that pregnancy and birth are natural processes. Women are generally well during their pregnancies and are perfectly designed to give birth to their babies without unnecessary intervention. Being given evidence based information enables women and their partners to be at the centre of decision making for themselves and their baby. Parents remember every detail of the birth of their baby so it is really important to make it a positive one.

My experience of working with pregnant women and my personal experience of Natal Hypnotherapy

I have been privileged to attend many births during my midwifery career and I have seen how a calm, positive approach using self-hypnosis, relaxation and positive affirmations can influence the outcome of labour and birth. The parents have had such a powerful and positive experience, some even claimed they were eagerly looking forward to the next time! The beneficial effects of natural, instinctive birth extend into the immediate post birth weeks, and beyond, enhancing the emotional and physical adaptation to new parenthood. I would have loved the opportunity to acquire the peace and confidence of Natal Hypnotherapy for the births of my three children.

What women can gain from attending my courses

By taking part in the workshops couples will feel prepared to discuss and release any fears and anxieties they may have. Participants learn how self-hypnosis, deep relaxation and positive thinking can be so powerful during labour and birth. The emotional needs of the mother are an integral part of the workshops and partners are provided with effective strategies to enable them to liaise with health professionals in various situations. Couples will leave the workshop with confidence and excitement in anticipation of their unique birth day.
