KATE: DUCHESS OF THE NATURAL HYPNOBIRTH?
15th April 2015
It was widely reported that the Duchess of Cambridge used hypnobirthing during her last birth, and Natal Hypnotherapy Founder Maggie Howell thinks she will use it again.
The pressure to produce an heir to the throne may be off the Duchess of Cambridge this time round, but as any mother, midwife or doula will tell you each birth is unique and exciting, with those last few days filled with expectation.
Maggie says "For mothers who have a positive birth experience with Natal Hypnotherapy we hear time and time again that the hypnotherapy skills and techniques they used first time round are even more powerful in subsequent births."
Whilst outside the press and public gather to await the new arrival, Maggie Howell has some advice for Kate to help her prepare for the birth of her second child.
"It is important to prepare both emotionally and physically for birth. I'd recommend Kate listen to the Birth Preparation tracks daily to help her relax and enjoy these last few moments of pregnancy. In addition, she'll be preparing for the birth of her child and building on the skills she learnt last time".
The Natal Hypnotherapy range of books, CDs and downloads are the new "mamma must-haves" consistently being best-selling pregnancy and birth titles on Amazon.

HOME BIRTHS ARE SAFER FOR MANY WOMEN
3rd December 2014
The new NICE guidelines out at the beginning of December 2014 have brought together all the most up to date evidence and now suggest that for many women giving birth at home is safer than being in hospital. The evidence suggests that when women go into hospital they are more likely to have medical intervention. One of the causes of this can be put down to an increase in the woman's adrenaline levels which will slow down or stop her body's natural hormones (Oxytocin) and so stall labour. By learning to stay calm, relaxed and focused, which is more likely to happen in the home setting, a woman is less likely to have any complications.
OVERCOME MORNING SICKNESS THE ROYAL WAY
8th September 2014
With the announcement today that the Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant with her second child and is once again suffering from morning sickness, she will no doubt be turning to her trusted hypnotherapy to help her get through the worst of it.
This therapy is not just for the rich and famous - The Overcome Morning Sickness CD from Natal Hypnotherapy helps pregnant women to manage and cope with nausea and morning sickness through safe effective relaxation and hypnosis skills. Hypnosis has been clinically proven to help women deal with morning sickness and in research carried out in conjunction with Pregnancy and Birth Magazine, 10 out of 10 mothers would recommend this CD to a friend and 9 out of 10 felt significant benefit from using it.
Morning sickness is caused by a combination of hormonal, physical and emotional changes that take place when a woman becomes pregnant. This is not a conscious thing - It is the subconscious part of the mind that manages and effects these changes - listening to the The Overcome Morning Sickness CD takes a pregnant woman into a deeply relaxed state in which she can effectively tune into that part of herself to help manage the symptoms and cause.
The combination of deep relaxation (which in itself helps alleviate the symptoms of morning sickness) and giving a new set of instructions to the mind/body, begins to change the way the she reacts to the symptoms and causes of morning sickness. The new instructions come into effect both while listening to the CD and after the session. According to the reports on the Duchess of Cambridge during her first pregnancy "The hypnotherapy is taking away any negative thoughts connected with food from the morning sickness, and replacing them with cravings for healthy, nutritious food".
Additional suggestions on the CD include: better quality sleep; more comfortable digestion; more effective use of energy; feeling/being calmer when dealing with every day issues; being attracted to the right types of food/drink and increasing water intake. There is also a simple technique, which can be used at any time to instantly control and reduce feelings of nausea.
Mum Mandy Shaw says: "After listening to your CD I stopped being sick after meals. The nausea only comes back very occasionally, and my appetite has improved almost back to normal! I wish I'd known about it for my last pregnancy, as I suffered really badly until about 18 weeks. I'll certainly recommend the CD to my friends."
£11.99 for a CD or £10 for a download available from www.natalhypnotherapy.co.uk as well as Amazon, itunes
IS HYPNOBIRTHING A LOAD OF OLD TWADDLE OR WILL EVIDENCE SHOW IT WORKS? MAGGIE HOWELL OFFERS AN EXPERTS OPINION
16th July 2014
With the rumours that the Duchess is pregnant again, plus the eagerly awaited results of the first major UK trial into the efficacy of hypnobirthing (SHIP trial) due out any day, the question of whether hypnobirthing is a load of old twaddle or if it really works is likely to become a hot topic. Maggie Howell, the UKs leading expert on the use of Hypnotherapy for pregnancy and birth is available for comment.
The increase in the use of hypnobirthing has risen steadily over the last 10 years as, more and more women have heard, mainly through word of mouth, that learning and practicing a few simple techniques can help them reduce pain, feel more in control and reduce the need for medical intervention.
The increase in awareness went sky high last year when it was reported that the Duchess of Cambridge used hypnosis to help overcome morning sickness and then again as a method to prepare for labour. Some may argue that the hypnobirthing techniques enabled her to stay super calm and have a natural birth whilst under the scrutiny of the world's media in a hospital where the overriding majority of women have epidurals or caesarean sections.
However - is this just wishful thinking or is there any clinical evidence to back this up?
In realty there is little clinical evidence to show if it does or does not work. However, in the next few weeks, the results of the SHIP trial (funded by the NHS) will be published which will provide much needed clinical evidence to either support or refute the efficacy of this growing trend.
For an expert opinion and insight into the conclusions of the trial, Maggie Howell is the UKs leading and most established clinical Hypnotherapist who has dedicated the last 12 years into the development and use of Hypnobirthing. An experienced, articulate broadcaster and media spokesperson, Maggie will be available for interview to answer questions about the use of and reported benefits of hypnobirthing, especially on the impact that it can have on a mothers' ability to reduce fear and anxiety in the lead up to and during the birth.
Maggie Howell has been a leading force in the UK, helping women move away from a fear fuelled approach to birth to one which promotes confidence and normality which recently earned her the title of finalist in the "UKs normal birth champion" awards. Her Natal Hypnotherapy range of hypnobirthing CDs, book and classes, the training for which is accredited by the Royal College of Midwives, have been used by over 100,000 parents-to-be in the UK and around the world. She works closely with a network of high profile midwives and antenatal educators and has trained over 1,000 midwives on the concepts, uses and benefits of hypnobirthing and on how Midwives, doulas and doctors can support women choosing this method. She is also mother to 5 sons, all of who were born whilst she practiced what she preaches.
